Brisbane Festival 2025
Riverfire on Saturday 6 September was the opening event and mega numbers of people lined the banks of the Brisbane river for this spectacular show.
Joc, Leanne and I arrived at the park below at 3.30 for the opening flyover at 5 pm. It was chockas. Families and groups must have been there all day with their gazebos and BBQ's. We quickly took the ferry to the opposite shore. It was also crowded but a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We lucked out with our spot, an entrance to an apartment block that was locked, but others hadn't realised!
Open views up and down the river.
Watching for the Australian Defence Force flyover.
A Growler, Globemaster and Spartan.
Our spot allowed us to see the moon rise, even if for a very short time.
The crowds and excitement built as 7pm approached.
with drone spectacular. We had spotted them in the sky but thought they were for photography.
Our new bridge dressed for Brisfest by artists Craig and Karl. The large, colourful, geometric, inflatable characters Diny and George, brought joy in many public spaces for the 3 weeks of Brisfest. So sad to see them gone now.
We didn't rush to leave, but we were still thrown into the chaos of the masses trying to board transport. The streets were clogged with traffic. A new experience for us as our previous viewing point allowed a very easy exit. We were in no hurry.
Wednesday 10 September - Hungry Hiker walk
13 km in total, from New Farm Park to the city, discovering The Matey's and enjoying this year's Illuminations in the Botanical Gardens at 6.30 pm.
At the Powerhouse, New Farm Park.
On the Kangaroo Point Foot Bridge.
The theme for this year's Illuminations was Afterglow. We were invited to follow the flame into a world of wonder. We listened to the corroboree of our indiginous ancestors of this area - the Yuggera people.
Time to find more Mateys. None at the City Hall as thought, but she was looking very stunning in her evening colour.
Beautiful river scenes as we made our way to the new Casino for dinner.
The Fat Noodle didn't disappoint with its $20 special.
Crossing the Neville Bonner footbridge to catch the ferry back to New Farm Park.
We had to make a mad dash to the pier, when we saw the ferry arriving. We didn't think we would have a chance. Huffing and puffing we made it, to be welcomed by the ferry Captain, himself! His words to us were, "What took you so long?" Much banter ensued before he returned to the steerhouse.
The river scenes were looking magnifcent.
Nearing the Storey Bridge, our Captain alerted one an all of the full moon's appearance. He stopped at the best vantage point for photography.
Nearing New Farm Park
How can one not love our city and its people!
