Jen's Gem - Wynnum Wetlands

To better enjoy the photos, please click on them to increase their size.

It was wonderful to finally have a walking Wednesday where we actually walked, albeit on a mainly flat surface and only 8 km.

We have often walked along the sea front at Wynnum. Our friend Jenny now lives here and discovered a trail in the opposite direction to where we normally walk. She suggested coffee and raspberry muffin on her balcony before setting off. We didn't disagree.

We were in good spirits as we set off along the foreshore.

It was a warm day, but with a moody, low cloud cover.

I was annoyed I didn't get more of the egret, but the glare made it very difficult to see what the shot would hold.
A lazy day for some.

We were in total awe of this massive, old gum tree.

We found another colony of bats.

The tide was rising in the mangroves.

White faced heron.

After walking along a boardwalk through the mangroves for some 500 metres, our path took us along  a backwater to a bird hide.

There was an abundance of pied oyster catchers, grey tailed tattlers, black tailed godwits and ducks.

On our return journey there were lovely reflections as we passed Wynnum Creek.

It was wonderful to be back in the great outdoors with my merry band of friends.

I would love to read your comment.

  3. Beautiful landscapes and great bird photos!
Do you ever participate in link parties? When I have bird pics (rather seldom unfortunately), I participate in Saturday's Critters and BIRD D'pot (see for example my sidebar). I'm sure they would love to see these photos.
Have a lovely day... well, a lovely evening, by now! :)

    1. Thanks Sara. I'm very slow where technology is concerned so haven't advanced to anything other than my blog. Our 2nd chilly evening. It's down to 13 but by midday it will be 27C. I hope the sun is shining for you.

  4. Great to see you are back at being out and about! While we are receiving well needed rain as I type here, it is snowing in the mountains. Should make for gorgeous greens down low and wonderful whites high above for your visit!

  6. I am amazed by the diversity of the scenery you showed along your walk. From mangrove to marinas, concrete waterfront, boardwalk and beach, there's a bit of everything. How stimulating!

Starting with a muffin is my idea of a nice walk too :)

And thanks for posting the house on your fb page - if we get guests through you i'll send you a little gift from Provence!

  7. I have about 15 eager friends who have responded, but distance and money is a big issue. We would all LOVE to book and enjoy the region.

    1. Thank you Alexa. We have been walking Wednesday's for 3 1/2 years and in that time very few walks have been repeated. We often say we have yet to have a 'bad' walk. Our laughter and friendship will always make the bad, good. I have visited both Paris and New York, so your blog often renews fond memories. Thanks.

  9. Glad to hear you're walking again - even if it was only 8 k :). Those bats are interesting. Jean Michel has just discovered that we have some in the attic space above our former pigsty.

    1. There seem to be far more colonies than previously and in suburbia. Will you have to remove your bats?
