Wednesday 13 September
Ten years ago, Zoe Bottrell worked for a council in the north of England. Her task to attract visitors during winter led her to create a light show to brighten her city and lift people's spirits. She is now managing director of the Culture Creative Company and travels the world to curate visual landscape shows.
The Brisbane Festival invited her to come to Brisbane this September, to create 'Lightscape', in our City Botanical Gardens.
The Hungry Hikers were totally enthralled by the colourful, visual and sound trail that wound 2 kilometres through the gardens, with 12 distinct themes.
Please enjoy.
The Indigenous Walk of changing patterns, in colour and black and white.

Red Poppy Tunnel

Bamboo Avenue
Garden of Fire - this is a circular garden of many individual beds of pansies. Their beauty unseen in the night light, but this effect and the music were spectacular.
The gardens have a lovely circle of tall palm trees and this was the focus for the finale of the evening. Alas, I do not know the title of this show but it was very special and I didn't want to leave.
It had been a night of wonder and awe to cap off a very special day with the Hungry Hikers.
I would love to read your comment.
A lot of work went into Lightscape. One can imagine the hours required to produce the light tunnel alone. The green scene is gorgeous! It is be mesmerizing to walk through the gardens like that.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, after all the effort to create, the exhibit was open for several weeks. Just wonderful.
DeleteUtterly magical views and photos! This time I have been able to choose my top 3: The giant "waterlilies" floating on water are really beautiful. The light tunnel looks like a cathedral. And your last photo of the palm trees is really a grandissimo finale. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! xx
The palm tree lighting and accompanying music were brilliant.
DeleteThis reminds me of light shows we've viewed here in the States - several at Christmas time and another that was brought into the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita. What a treat!
ReplyDeleteAn amazing treat!
DeleteThat is sheer joy Zoe brought to your city! It is so illuminating for the heart and soul!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, Alexandra.
DeleteWow, incredible. This would be fun to see. I like the light tunnel and also the tree monsters!
ReplyDeleteSo much to love!
DeleteJust found your blog and I’m so glad I did. What an amazing light show. Wish we had something like that here. Mind you it must have been very expensive to create. B x
ReplyDeleteHello there Coastal Ripples. Thank you for commenting. I will visit your blog as soon as I have time. I visited Jersey in 1977 and loved it.
DeleteSydney has their light festival in the winter time and I would love to go and be enchanted by it. But my husband's eyesight makes things like that difficult so will settle on enjoying a light display through your blog.
ReplyDeleteThe Sydney festival was created by the same woman. A friend visited and said it was the similar, but with a different theme.
DeleteAmazing garden! Setting up the lighting must have been a challenging project.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to know how long it took to dismantle as well.
