This is a collation of being out and about, trying to beat the heat and humidity, that we are at present experiencing.
Wednesday 6 December
4pm meet up in the city. The temperature was 33C as we left home. Thankfully a cool breeze off the river and shady paths, made this walk much more pleasant than anticipated. Our goal was to walk via the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, ferry to Riverside and then walk to Edward Street to search for the 6 new Tiny Doors, with a Christmas theme. 10 km walked.
The hunt begins.
These two had been removed 3 days after placed in position. The thought was that they had been stolen. It appears that the Mall cleaners had removed them. Joc has since found them.
So what do the Hungry Hikers do after a hike? Of course they look for food. A visit followed to the City Hall Christmas Tree.
No, not this one.
This week the Gaiter Girls only had a short local walk at 5.30 am. We needed to do the final organisation for a friends 70th High Tea this afternoon. It's out doors, so please, no storm!
As we set off, this flowering gum had to be photographed.
It has been 35 C all week, so the Hungry Hikers set off walking the Wynnum foreshore at 5pm. Again it was still hot, but a breeze off the bay kept us comfortable. The sky was unusually beautiful for such a hot afternoon.
Fish 'n chips was to follow, but everyone had decided to bring some nibbles and bubbles. The fish 'n chips would have been too hot to enjoy! It was just so lovely under the massive fig trees covered in fairy lights.
Friday 15th
A storm about 5pm brought some relief, and 18ml. A very pleasant storm for us, but the inner city was not so fortunate. A super cell whipped through with winds of 160k/h! Christmas will be a sad time for many.
Temperatures like that would have this poor Englishman thinking about anything other than walking. Maximum temperature of 10C here today!
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy 10C! We don't like the heat, but it is with us for many months of the year so one has to adapt.
DeleteYou all radiate friendship and a very good time. It makes me want to hug all of you. That would no doubt get me in trouble, so I'll just say I hope your Christmas time is cooler, and filled with love and giggles.
ReplyDeleteOur friendship is rather special, Bill and very much appreciated.
DeleteHugging is mandatory when we meet so you would be welcomed.
You all look so spry, fresh and happy even with those hot temperatures! Your photos of the time with your friends walking and dining are so colourful.
ReplyDeleteIt was surprisingly pleasant, Alexandra. It is our summer, so we just have to make the most of it. At least we aren't working in it, day after day.
DeleteI cannot even imagine that sustained heat, Helen! And you are walking through it all. I would be confined to the house for sure. Your summer is shaping up to be a hot one!
ReplyDeleteMy Christmas wish for you both is to have a cooler Christmas Day!
Today was was 26C, Marie. So lovely to vaccum and not drip with sweat. Christmas Day is forecast to be wet and 33C. There will be a few beach barbies [BBQ's] cancelled.
DeleteI love reading about the adventures with your friends! Everyone looks happy, despite the heat.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had a bad walk in 10 years, Linda!
DeleteI can't believe you ladies still go walking in the current hot weather. And in the humidity of Brisbane which would make it so much worse!
ReplyDeleteJoan, we aim for early or late starts. It makes a big difference.
DeleteI too wish you cooler temperatures, for Christmas and in general.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are full of light and joy. Thank you!
Sending sunshine, warmth and healing to you, Sara.
DeleteI wish you cooler temperatures for Christmas! I can't imagine to walk in this heat.
ReplyDeleteWild weather! Your sky photos are amazing. Have a very Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMargi, 20 years ago, several Christmas Day temperatures reached 40C. Now, that is unpleasant.
