Final morning of Winter Down Under

Wednesday 30 August, 2017

Today was The Hungry Hiker's bush walking day. My husband and I were planning on driving down to Tweed Heads after the walk, to spend a few nights in my sister in laws newly purchased unit, situated on the bank of the lovely Tweed River. Mags and partner had forced themselves away from this wonderful view to go skiing in South America.

When one of our hiker's expressed a wish for a coastal walk, I was quick to suggest a return to our often enjoyed Currumbin to Tweed Heads trail. We drove down at 8am and Frank much later, being in time to serve as a taxi, to transport the hikers back to their car.

This second last day of winter was perfect for hiking. It was wonderful to have some cold weather back after the heat we had been experiencing.

The destination spotted in the distance.

You've seen him before, but he is just too cute not to photograph again.

Thursday 31 August, 5.30am.

View as I set off on my bicycle for an ocean sunrise view.

I've sat watching the surf at this point many times and never noticed the small arch in the rocks.

6.04 am was the offical sunrise time, but the bank of clouds brought a tranquil delay.

Finally ............

With the sun fully risen, I turned left to walk the short distance to Snapper Rocks to watch the surfers. They were enjoying some perfect waves after several weeks of almost calm conditions, but first my attention was caught by whales breaching and dolphins gliding.

Such a glorious morning.

Sunset

On the first sunrise of spring, I decided to relax and enjoy its beauty from the unit. Well in actual fact, just lying in bed. I think Mags may find she has squatters she can't get rid of, if she doesn't return soon.

Finally, a very cheerful image of spring found in my garden this morning.

To my northern friends, I hope you can find joy in the return of your autumn. Enjoy the colours for me.

I would love to read your comment.

Yes, autumn looks to have arrived here. We don't think of it today, when one family member comes home for his summer holidays. :)
    Happy spring! xx

    1. That is the skyline of Surfers Paradise on our world famous Gold Coast. I'm far happier at this end of the coast.

    1. The fires have certainly spoilt your summer air. Good luck for some heavy rain and then a snowpocalpse.

    2. I don't want a snowpocalypse, but I do feel like we didn't get a summer. Lovely ocean photos!

  6. I just those sunrise photos, reminds me of the many sunrises I saw when were in Queensland. Also like those photos of the surfers with the skyscrapers behind - is that Surfers Paradise?

    1. Yes, it is Surfer's Paradise, but the best waves are at this end of the coast.

  7. Oh wow! Those sunrise photos were definitely worth the wait! One of those needs to end up on a canvas in your living room. Gorgeous!
