Tweed River Cruise

Wednesday 3 August

Having had another large, BC, skin cancer removed from my leg, I was under instructions to limit my walking for 2 to 3 weeks. The Wednesday hikers, now with the name 'Hungry Hikers' [both on Instagram and Facebook] unanimously agreed that a Tweed River cruise with Mt Warning Tours [previously suggested], would be the perfect alternative to a day's hiking.

We had just had a week of perfect winter's sunshine, so we were disappointed that rain had fallen overnight and sky was looking onimous for our day's outing. Thankfully, the karma of our group again allowed us to cruise without the deluge that fell just further south, or the biting westerlies felt back in Brisbane.

The cruise departed from Tumbulgum. We arrived in time to enjoy a coffee and short walk before the sailing time.
And what a delight that was. Delicious orange cake [ thanks Margot], high tide and views to Mt Warning, who wasn't catching clouds, until a little later.
[Mt Warning's aboriginal name is  'Cloud Catcher']

Setting off at 10.30 am.

Peace and serenity, as our craft leisurely cruised towards Murwillumbah.

For those of you who read my Mt Warning hike, this picture map given to us by the crew, shows the extent of the crater 20 million years ago, when the core was twice the height that it is now. Pink line is the location of the cruise.

We were well looked after.

On arrival in Murwillumbah, we were allocated 30 mins to visit the Rainforest Centre. Having previously visited this exhibit, it was a perfect opportunity to dash across the Tweed to the town centre to a particular shop, where a particular item had been seen by one of our group, several weeks before and there was regret for not having made a purchase then. Alas it had gone, but an order was made for one to arrive in a few weeks. Another hike in this area coming up.

'The Spirit of Wollumbin' was still moored on our return.

The return journey was equally relaxing and beautiful. At 1.30 pm, our vessel moored directly opposite the Tumbulgum Pub.

The pub provided the scrumptious plate of seafood and basket of the best chunky chips around, that were included in our ticket.

Such a perfect day in the company of old and new friends. I would highly recommend this cruise on the Tweed.
